USA Gymnastics Level 9 Eastern Championships Head to Battle Creek in May

The Calhoun County Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Branch Gymnastics announce that USA Gymnastics has selected Battle Creek to host the 2013 Women’s Junior Olympic Level 9 Eastern Championships. Nearly 400 of the best Level 9 gymnasts east of the Mississippi River will compete in the event on May 2-5, 2013. The competition will be held at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, MI.

“Branch Gymnastics and Battle Creek was chosen as the host site as we have a reputation for hosting high quality gymnastics championships”, said Linda Freybler, Calhoun County Visitors Bureau CEO. “The Visitors Bureau will work closely with Branch Gymnastics, Kellogg Arena, area hotels and restaurants to create an exceptional experience for the 2013 Level 9 Eastern Championship participants.”

The Eastern Championships are the culmination event for the Level 9 competitive season and include the best gymnasts in the country at this level form Regions 5-8. The competition features 16 age divisions (Junior 1-8 and Senior 1-8), which are determined by age and birth date. The three days of competition will determine the all-around, individual event and team champions for each of the 16 age groups.

The top six gymnasts in the all-around competition in each age group at the respective Regional Championships, held April 12-14, qualify to the Level 9 Eastern Championships.

Many Junior Olympic champions have gone on to make the U.S. National Team and represent the United States in international competition and/or to compete in collegiate gymnastics.

Branch Gymnastics and Kellogg Arena have previously hosted the Men’s Junior Olympics National Championships in 1998, 2006 and 2008. They are known for their excellent customer service and event support.
